CELEBRATING ONE OF RUGBY’S MILESTONE EVENTS

On 7th January 1927, Sir Evelyn Murray of the GPO placed a call to Walter S Gifford of the American Telephone & Telegraph Co. It was only thanks to Rugby Radio Station’s powerful transmitter that such a call, across the thousands of miles of ocean, had become possible.

We’re proud to say that TheTuning Fork takes its name from a crucial component of that transmitter all those years ago – the valve-maintained audio tuning fork that was used to supply an accurate and stable frequency source for its pioneering transmissions.
